Welcome from our new Principal

Dear families, whānau, and friends of Wairau Valley School,

I am delighted to extend warm greetings and introduce myself as the incoming Principal of Wairau Valley School, effective from the beginning of 2026. Many of you will know me from my time as Deputy Principal at Whitney Street School, where I have spent the past nine rewarding years.

During my time at Whitney Street, I have been fortunate to lead across a variety of areas, including Mathematics, ICT and Technology, Kapa Haka, and as a Board Staff Representative. These roles, alongside my work as a Within School and Across School Lead, have prepared me well for this next chapter.

At Wairau Valley School, my goal is to build on the significant strengths already evident here, particularly in student achievement. I am committed to ensuring your children are equipped with the skills they need to reach their highest potential – both in the classroom and beyond. Central to this is building a partnership with you; I look forward to meeting you all and learning about your aspirations for your children and our school.

On a personal note, I am married to Caroline and we have two children who are a great source of pride and support. Outside of education, I am heavily involved in the NZ Pipe Band scene, playing for both the local Marlborough Pipe Band and the Celtic Pipe Band from Nelson. I also serve as a nationally accredited judge and volunteer with our local Civil Defence Response Team (NZ-RT20).

I hope you will find me to be a hard-working, collaborative, and reflective leader who values honesty and fairness above all. I believe in the power of open communication, so please know that my door is always open for your ideas, questions, or concerns.

I am incredibly proud to join the Wairau Valley community and look forward to the journey ahead with you all.

Kindest regards,

Adam Alexander
